Derby-based specialist contractor Cawarden has been recognised with an International Green Apple Environment Award for its outstanding commitment to sustainability and environmental innovation.

Selected from over 700 entries worldwide, Cawarden was honoured at a prestigious ceremony at the House of Lords, London, on 17 November 2025. The accolade, presented by The Green Organisation, celebrates the company’s pioneering approach to sustainable groundworks and civils delivery at Brooksby College in Leicestershire, delivered in partnership with Tilbury Douglas.

The award highlights Cawarden’s bold use of Eco Type 1 IBAA, a recycled aggregate supplied by Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling Ltd, which delivered measurable environmental benefits: 1,800 tonnes of CO₂ saved, 6,000 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill, up to 13% less material required by weight, and reduced transport emissions through local sourcing.

It was a privilege for Cawarden to share the spotlight with organisations from around the world, including some of the construction industry’s leading names such as Balfour Beatty, Winvic, and Siemens – highlighting the collective drive across the sector to champion environmental excellence.

Cawarden is actively supporting early-stage design optioneering across the sector, offering site visits and sharing its methodology to encourage wider adoption of recycled aggregates and sustainable practices.
