Derbyshire-based specialist contractor Cawarden has achieved an “Excellent” 92% rating following a recent Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) audit on its Darley Abbey Bridge project for Derby City Council.
The audit highlighted the project team’s commitment to the core principles of the CCS framework, with particular praise for its approach to the workforce, the environment and the local community.
A key feature of the assessor’s feedback was the positive relationship established between the site team and neighbouring residents. The auditor noted the high level of cooperation and mutual respect shown by both parties, recognising this collaborative approach as fundamental to the successful delivery of the project and remarking that, without it, the works would be “nigh on impossible” to deliver.
Working within a highly environmentally sensitive location, the project team was also commended for the procedures and safeguards in place to protect the surrounding environment, as well as the support provided to those working on site.
While opportunities for continuous improvement were identified, the audit concluded with an Excellent rating, reflecting the team’s commitment to delivering the project responsibly and considerately.
This is a fantastic result for everyone involved in the project. Delivering work in such a sensitive location requires careful planning, strong communication and a genuine commitment to our workforce, the environment and the local community. The team’s dedication has been recognised through this Excellent rating, and they should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.”

Following the successful removal of Walter’s Walkway in July, Cawarden continues to deliver the remaining works for Derby City Council, maintaining the high standards of safety, environmental responsibility and community engagement that have been recognised through the CCS assessment.
The site audit follows Cawarden’s recent 45/45 score in a CCS company audit, meaning both assessments have achieved an Excellent rating and reflecting the company’s commitment to maintaining high standards across every aspect of its operations.
