Derby-based Specialist Contractor, Cawarden, Wins International CSR Gold Excellence Award for Sustainable Demolition and Community Enrichment.
Cawarden has been awarded the prestigious International Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Gold Excellence Award for its innovative project at a 10-storey former office block located in Birmingham city centre. The project showcased sustainable demolition practices and community enrichment, successfully redistributing or recycling 98% of materials during the internal strip-out of the building. This initiative diverted a significant amount of materials from landfill, benefited thousands of people, and contributed to carbon savings, all while embracing circular economy principles.
As part of the project, the site team carefully salvaged thousands of items, which were then donated to charity and other local community organisations. These donations included essential items such as thousands of carpet tiles, various types of lighting, hundreds of roof tiles, and even a fully equipped kitchen complete with appliances and serving counters. One of the recipients was Nightlife Outreach, a mental health and addiction support service, which was in the process of relocating its community centre. The donations provided a much-needed boost to the organisation, significantly enhancing its facilities and the resources available to those seeking assistance.
The recognition is particularly special for Cawarden, as it marks the company’s first year of entering the awards, making the Gold Excellence Award even more meaningful. The ceremony took place earlier this week (Monday, 1 July) at the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral in London, where Managing Director, William Crooks, proudly accepted the award from the Corporate Social Responsibility Society on behalf of the company.
