Cawarden completes major strip-out and complex industrial demolition and dismantling works at the former Brinton Carpet manufacturing site in Shropshire.
The Brinton Carpet site in Telford had been producing yarns for 50 years until production was ceased with processes consolidated and transferred to European plants.
The client therefore appointed Cawarden to the project to help restore the site to attract future tenants.
Our work began by stripping out the existing central offices and undertaking asbestos removal as per the survey. We then proceeded to remove the boilers, tanks, and concrete mezzanine floors. We partially demolished certain areas of the steel-framed building and completely demolished the storage bays, plant rooms, boiler housing, tank rooms, and removed sections of the roof. Cladding was also removed as required.
To accomplish these complex works, we used our in-house specialist demolition machinery including burners, concrete pulverisers, metal shears, and a remote-controlled demolition robot.
We completely removed the M&E and ductwork throughout the 18,000m2 building and broke out certain external slabs.
A key part of the project’s success was the removal of five chimney stacks, which required a large-scale lift operation using a 70t mobile crane with suspended man baskets. Our team worked in partnership with our lifting contractor to manage and coordinate the entire operation flawlessly.
Overall, our efforts have repurposed the brownfield site, ensuring a beneficial after-use and renewed economic prosperity for years to come.
