Project: | Northwich Market |
Location: | Northwich, Cheshire |
Client: | Cheshire County Council |
Status: | Complete |
Services: | Enabling & Demolition; Emergency Response |
The call came in following an emergency response request from Cheshire County Council. Cawarden promptly mobilised a site team and machinery to ensure public safety and carry out the necessary demolition works under the guidance of Cheshire fire crews.
To ensure public safety, we cordoned off the site with over 100 Heras fence panels.
Fire crews needed to access certain parts of the market roof to put out the fire effectively, but access was not possible without carrying out some emergency demolition work first. So, under the direction of fire officers, we demolished parts of the market’s roof and walls to help crews gain quick and safe access to the site.
After the fire was successfully extinguished, we ensured the building and site were safe before later installing a solid hoarding and removing the remaining debris.
Six months later following the devastating blaze, we were asked to return to Northwich to demolish the remains of the market building and clear the site for future development. The old market site is now a crucial aspect of the regeneration of the Weaver Square area.
