Cawarden has strengthened its specialist fleet with the arrival of a new Komatsu PC490HRD-11 75-tonne high-reach demolition excavator, equipped with Komatsu’s innovative K100 boom change system. The addition takes the company’s high-reach fleet to three machines and forms part of a wider investment programme that has seen more than £2 million invested in plant and equipment during 2026.

For Cawarden, investment in plant is about more than adding machines to the fleet. It is about ensuring project teams have access to the right equipment, technology and specialist attachments to deliver projects safely, efficiently and with the flexibility to respond to changing site conditions.

The new high-reach excavator significantly enhances operational capability. The K100 system allows boom configurations to be changed quickly, enabling operators to adapt the machine to different stages of a project while minimising downtime. Combined with a range of working configurations, the machine can be tailored to suit a variety of structures and demolition challenges, helping maintain productivity and programme certainty on site.

Its first project will be at a site in Wales, where it will support the demolition of factory buildings on a live site. The machine will play an important role in helping the team deliver the works safely and efficiently while maintaining the careful planning and control required in a busy operational environment.

The arrival of the new high-reach is one of several significant investments made by the business this year. Recent additions to the fleet also include the LiuGong 933F excavators, alongside a range of specialist attachments, taking Cawarden’s investment in plant and equipment to more than £2 million during 2026.

Adding a personal touch to the new high-reach, the machine features the operator’s name on the door alongside Cawarden’s 40th anniversary logo. Fittingly, Richard Camp is celebrating 40 years with the business this year, bringing decades of skill, knowledge and experience to one of the most advanced machines in the fleet.

His expertise was also recognised in 2026 when he was named High Reach Operator of the Year at the Demmy Awards, powered by Demolition Hub.
